Roberto is a Senior Consultant with nearly 20 years of experience working in the food industry as a quality assurance professional. He is skilled in strategic planning, systems development, project management, and team leadership. As a project manager for Kestrel Tellevate’s food safety-related projects, Roberto supports clients in developing and implementing GFSI schemes and supplier approval programs, and brings his focus to meat, dairy, RTE, bakery, and other related food industry segments.
Prior to joining KTL, Roberto held a number of senior management roles in his 9 years at US Foods, a major food distributor with a national presence. He provided leadership for quality and food safety programs. This included planned and implementing GFSI certification for FSSSC 22000 at 13 locations; managing and developing HACCP, GMP, SSOP, and SOP programs; and reducing nationwide USDA non-compliances by 33%.
Roberto has extensive experience in supplier management. As the Red Meat Supplier Manager at US Foods, he managed all beef, lamb, veal, and pork product supplier programs, which included handling quarterly scorecards, quality evaluations, and product complaints. He worked with the product development team in developing and approving new product specifications and coordinated efforts to ensure product compliance between suppliers and the product development team.
As a quality assurance professional, Roberto has provided leadership for quality assurance and food safety programs. He is skilled at providing technical and regulatory support; developing, reviewing, and approving policies and procedures for compliance with food safety standards; managing communications with regulatory agencies (including USDA, FDA, APHIS/AMS and local authorities); developing and delivering programs for employee training (safety (OSHA), food safety, and product quality); implementing corrective actions; and managing internal and external communication.
Roberto excels at developing an ISO culture within organizations to help ensure compliance. He has implemented Lean Six Sigma projects for vendor management and preventive maintenance and met with vendors and suppliers to evaluate and close out contracts. He has also been responsible for export programs and pursued export orders for Mexico, Canada, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Singapore, and Dominican Republic.
