November 10, 2014 - Kestrel Management
Kestrel’s Sarah Burton has become a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources-approved environmental auditor under section (7m) of the Green Tier law.
Green Tier is a voluntary program that recognizes and rewards environmental performance “that voluntarily exceeds legal requirements related to health, safety and the environment resulting in continuous improvement in this state’s environment, economy, and quality of life” (s. 299.83(1m)(b), Wis. Stats.). The Green Tier law requires that participants in the program have an Environmental Management System (EMS) audited by a qualified “outside environmental auditor” at least every third year.

Sarah has conducted hundreds of multi-media compliance audits for industrial clients across the U.S., Europe, Canada, Mexico, and China. In addition to her extensive regulatory auditing and due diligence experience, Sarah has also developed and facilitated the implementation and improvement of ISO9001 and ISO14001 management systems at numerous facilities, resulting in measured increases in business value through EHS improvements.
Sarah’s background also includes experience designing and managing Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) programs, providing expert witness testimony, formulating SPCC and contingency plans, managing hazardous materials, preparing annual reports, conducting UST audits and upgrade analyses, and developing and managing in-plant chemical inventories. She has an M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Michigan and a B.S. in Chemistry and Russian Studies from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, and is a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
